Alvin College Speech Instructor Recognized

Alvin College Speech instructor Dr. Earnest Burnett was recognized recently for excellence in education by a Texas lawmaker.

State Rep. Ron Reynolds presented Dr. Burnett with a proclamation from the Texas House of Representatives honoring the Speech instructor for more than 30 years as an educator. Harris County Constable James “Smoke” Phillips also honored Dr. Burnett with a proclamation.

“I was surprised when I was acknowledged along with 15 others for our contributions to education, the arts, film and media," Burnett said. "I was even more surprised with the proclamations."

The proclamations each referenced his many years teaching students at the college level and promoting the importance of education to his students.

“Earnest Burnett has distinguished himself through his professional contributions and commitment to lifelong learning,” states the Texas House proclamation.

“It was an honor to be acknowledged for something that I love to do which is inspiring and educating our students over the last 33 years," he said.

Dr. Burnett and other recipients were recently honored at the 50 Shades of Green Entrepreneur Extravaganza Ball fundraising event on October 17 hosted by entrepreneur Dr. Clemmie St. Amand. The event helps to support underrepresented business owners and families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Other recipients included local politicians, business leaders, educators, and entertainment personalities in the region.
