ACC Receives Grants to Provide Textbooks to TDCJ Students

Alvin Community College recently received a grant to supply up-to-date textbooks to students taking courses through the Texas Department of Criminal Justice program.
Government instructor Amy Acord was awarded the $4,400 grant from a partnership with the Alliance for Higher Education in Prison and the W.W. Norton Publishing Prison Education Book Connection.
These students are enrolled in ACC Associate’s Degree programs which are proven to reduce recidivism rates upon reentry into society,” said Acord, who teaches Government courses in TDCJ units.
Students need the most current expertise in their course content to ensure the quality of their education and the value of their degree, said Chakoa Jefferson, ACC TDCJ programs director.
“This grant will give our students access to the most recent material on government studies,” she said.
The books will be available to students taking courses at the TDCJ Ramsey Unit. They will replace outdated books on the federal government, Acord said.
