Alvin College Theatre’s Summer Children’s Theatre Festival will Feature ‘Cowabunga’ Starting July 28
Alvin College Theatre will host the world premiere of Meghan McEnery’s ‘Cowabunga’ as part of its annual Summer Children’s Theatre Festival, an event that provides a low-cost theatrical experience to thousands of children from local childcare centers.

‘Cowabunga’ is the story of Shetty Freddy - a Shetland cow who loves to skateboard, even if his friends think he’s weird. He and his friends are called by a mysterious force to leave their humble Moo-souri home and take a journey to Malibu to learn the art of surfing. The delightful play looks at belonging, individualism, and how to manage big feelings in a healthy way.
Meghan McEnery is a Los Angeles-based writer, editor, and actor. Her writing has been developed and produced at Theatre 4the People, Actors Studio West, Actor’s Homeroom, The Theater Upstairs, Trike Children’s Theatre, Back Space, Franklin College, Alvin College, and the University of Arkansas. She has an MFA in playwriting from the University of Arkansas.
Performances will be held at Alvin College Theatre on July 28, 29, and 30.
The casts for both productions in the Festival are comprised of young theatre artists and Alvin College drama majors. Each young person that participates is met where they’re at, creating an accessible environment for beginners while also providing opportunities for challenge and growth to those with more experience. The college-level students involved as actors, stage managers, crew members, and designers receive hands-on training in theatre education to augment their degree plan.
