Alvin College Regents Receive Update on Construction

The Alvin College Board of Regents heard a report on the progress of the maintenance tax note during the meeting on July 23.
The college hired Tellepsen as the contractor for the project. Workers are currently doing assessment to campus facilities prior to upgrades.
The upgrades are part of a $30 million maintenance note approved by regents in 2025.
The maintenance note will fund much-needed upgrades to aging infrastructure on campus including water lines, HVAC systems, facilities updates, landscaping and exterior improvements.
In other action the regents approved a contract with BlackBoard to provide the software platform for online classes. The contract will be for $574,000 over the next five years. The updates to the platform will include implementation of emerging AI technology.
Regents also:
-approved hiring of faculty for Automotive Technology and Chemistry
-adjustments to board policy
-approved annual employee contracts
-approved purchase of Nursing licensure exam preparation service
-monthly financial reports
The board will have its next meeting on Thursday, August 20 at 6 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center.
