Alvin College Phi Theta Kappa Student Impact Scholar
Alvin College student Amy Ortiz was recognized recently for academic achievement by the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society.
Amy Ortiz was recently named the organization’s 2026 Coca Cola World Impact Scholar and she was awarded a $2,500 scholarship.
“I am truly honored and grateful to be recognized with this scholarship,” she said. “I hope my journey shows others that no matter what, do not give up on your dreams.”
The World Impact Scholars program recognizes high-achieving college students who are pursuing career and technical educational opportunities in cities where the 2026 World Cup will be held. This scholarship helps defray educational expenses while enrolled in a certificate or associate degree workforce development program at a two-year college.
Ortiz was inspired to enroll in the Alvin College Substance Abuse and Counseling program after struggling with her own personal issues with substance abuse and mental health.
“Those experiences are what inspired me to become a counselor for others facing substance abuse and mental health challenges,” she said.I have come so far in my journey, both professionally and personally, and I am very proud of the progress I have made.”
Ortiz excelled as a student and was eventually selected to join the Alvin College Mu Upsilon Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society. Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society of two-year colleges.
I hope to use my experiences and education to help others find hope, healing, and a path forward,” she said.
