Alvin College President Named Outstanding Leader by North Brazoria County Chamber
Alvin College President Dr. Robert J. Exley was recognized at the Outstanding Leader of the Year by the Northern Brazoria County Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Exley was given the honor during the chamber’s annual awards banquet on February 20.
“I am very humbled to receive this award from the chamber,” Dr. Exley said. “While I am honored to be named an outstanding leader, individual recognition is only possible through the support and guidance of the College's regents, our administration and the entire faculty and staff. Their work and dedication to this institution continues to be an inspiration.”
Dr. Exley began his tenure as the college’s seventh president in 2021. In that time, Dr. Exley has overseen the completion of the 2018 Maintenance Note, creation of the Alvin College West campus, implemented a strategic plan, implemented several new programs including the first Bachelor’s Degree offered by the college and has overseen the highest enrollment in the college’s history.
“I am so proud that the people of our community have recognized the amazing leader we have in Dr. Robert Exley,” said ‘Bel Sanchez, chair of the college Board of Regents. “He is working nonstop to guide the College staff, faculty, leadership and board as we work our Strategic Plan and move the College forward.”
Sanchez added that outside of his time as President, Dr. Exley stays involved with many local, state and national organizations to promote the mission of community colleges.
Dr. Exley serves on the board of directors for the North Brazoria County Chamber, the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE) he is chair on the Texas Gulf Coast Community Colleges Consortium and a member of the legislative committee for the Texas Association of Community Colleges. He has received the Shirley B. Gordon Award for Distinction from the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society and is a Distinguished Graduate from the University of Texas at Austin's Community College Leadership Program.
